Hidden in an unassuming industrial corner of Northridge sits one of the most legendary recording rooms in modern rock history: Studio 606, the private studio owned by Dave Grohl. At the heart of the studio is the famed Neve 8028 analog console from the legendary Sound City Studios, the very board that helped shape some of rock music’s most iconic albums. After Sound City closed in 2011, Grohl purchased the console and moved it to Studio 606, preserving a piece of recording history that had been responsible for the unmistakable sound of countless classic records.
That same console was used on landmark recordings by artists including Tom Petty, whose classic album Damn the Torpedoes was tracked through it, as well as sessions by Fleetwood Mac and many other legendary acts. Today, its legacy continues with Joshua Ketchmark, who recorded all 25 songs for his upcoming album Hellhounds through this historic board.
The sessions brought together an exceptional team, with Morgan Stratton engineering, Zak St. John on drums, and Viktor on bass. All of the basic tracks for the ambitious 25-song project were captured at Studio 606, allowing the performances to benefit from the warmth, depth, and character that have made the Neve console legendary for decades. Recording at 606 places Hellhounds in a lineage that stretches from classic rock masterpieces to modern records, connecting Joshua Ketchmark’s music to one of the most celebrated pieces of recording equipment ever built.
