The Bittersweet EP
Los Angeles based singer/songwriter Joshua Ketchmarks new EP ‘the Bittersweet’ is releasing on April 17th 2012. This is the 1st release of 3 this year from Ketchmark showcasing his various writing styles and influences. “Some songs aren’t meant to sit on the shelf” Ketchmark says, and it’s in that spirit this year 3 new EP’s take flight.
Joshua got his start in 2008 with his first solo release ‘List of Regrets’ that generated a lot of press and attention. Followed up in 2011 with ‘Karas Cruentas’, which was well received by his fans, and now the beginning of another chapter is on the horizon.

‘The Bittersweet” is a collection of four songs that are sonically similar to each other though vary in approach and definition. This 1st EP was produced by Denny Smith (fORMER/The Great Affairs) and Michael Saint Leon, recorded at switchyard studios in Nashville with Smiths band fORMER as the backing band. The opening track “Covered in Roses” slightly U2 inspired, is very reminiscent of the aforementioned “List of Regrets’ with intimate verses that explode into the type of chorus that Ketchmark is known for. The next track, “All These Eyes” was collaborated on with Smith who was drawn to the instrumental version of the song and contributed the lyrics to the track. ‘The Take” Is the most straight ahead rock track of the bunch, a cross between Jimmy Eat World and the Foo Fighters. Lastly, ‘Cigarettes and Wine’ is yet another staple of Ketchmarks with its cinematic lyrics and classic theme that showcases another one of Joshua’s strengths, being able to take something intensely personal and make it feel universal. Ketchmark and Smith have been friends for many years and he was the catalyst in the genesis and completion of the four songs that sum up this first installment.
