A wild trip of a track, Joshua Ketchmark embarks on a joyous adventure with “Covered In Blood”. Volume is a given for his is an enormous sound that wears its heart on its sleeve. The lyrics here matter and help to give a sense of place within the entire experience. Everybody in the band seems to be working overtime for they pour their everything into it, from the grand sweeps of the keyboards to the sheer physicality of that rhythm section. Somehow his voice manages to stay in the very core of the work even as the tremendously active instrumentation swirls about him.
The bright brilliant burst of energy starts things off right. From there things go swinging on through. Nods to modern country rock emerge over the entire experience, yet his has a more rustic, less polished grace to it. Melodies ripple throughout for they evolve in their own naturalistic fashion. Done with the utmost of dignity they make sure every single moment counts. Over the course of the piece he manages to explore entire lifetimes for it has that level of depth to it. Volume is an absolute must for theirs is something that needs to be felt as much as heard. Even though it starts strong, it becomes truly cathartic for that finale as the whole thing points itself up towards the sky.
