Nashville-based singer-songwriter Joshua Ketchmark has served as a torch bearer for the Americana style of music during a career that spans almost fifteen years. Releasing multiple critically acclaimed full-length records since his debut album with 2008’s List of Regrets, he’s shared an inspiring catalogue of music that’s cemented his reputation as a celebrated modern day musician and songwriter.
The last three years has seen him drop as many LPs with the live album The Old Faithful in 2020, The Huntington Hotel from last year and in 2022 he shared his tenth record with the self-produced twelve-track album titled Blood. Lifted from the new record, he brings us the third single with the song “Death Trap”.
Laying down his trademark wistful vocal delivery above a delicate guitar-based arrangement and soft touches of cello, with “Death Trap” Joshua Ketchmark offers a poignant song that’s both beautiful and moving.
Written about overcoming obstacles and never giving up on following your dreams against all odds, the inspiration for the song, much like the rest of the material on Blood, stems from his own experiences growing up in the mid-west just south of Chicago, Illinois.
Composed, performed and produced by Joshua Ketchmark himself, the artist is joined by C.C. Wyle adding alluring vocal pads, Zak. St. John of Black Star Riders and Stevie Wonder fame on percussion and Bonepony’s Nick Nguyen playing the cello. On an album full of stunning songwriting, “Death Trap” stands proudly as a highlight track from an artist who continues to deliver timeless music with the power to speak directly to your heart and soul.
