La musica country ha sempre fatto questo: è una lente di ingrandimento per vedere quei fili e capire come sono intrecciati a noi.

L’artista di Nashville Joshua Ketchmark ha appena rilasciato il suo ultimo singolo, “Tazewell County Line“, canzone perfetta per chi ama il country in stile narrativo, una dolce ballata country rock. “Tazewell County Line” è la dodicesima e l’ultima traccia del decimo album in studio registrato dall’artista, “Blood“.

Originario di Peoria, in Illinois, Joshua Ketchmark è cresciuto con diverse influenze musicali, tra cui troviamo: Queen, The Beatles, Prince e Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Tazewell County Line è una canzone che ci racconta una storia talmente avvincente che, come in tutte le ottime canzoni country, vogliamo sapere cosa succede dopo. Ci aggancia dalla prima strofa:

I thought I knew you

Was I ever wrong

Dopo, nell’esecuzione e nella spiegazione di tutto, mantiene l’interesse sempre saldamente aggrappato con l’aggiunta di un organo Hammond sempre piuttosto sottile a fare da sfondo. Lo stereo e la strumentazione incidentale con l’uso del panning sono estremamente coinvolgenti, e oltre a questo ci sono dei bei lick di chitarra tra le linee vocali.

Dopo il principio con un ritmo di batteria costante, un ritmo di chitarra acustica e una chitarra elettrica prosegue tutto in maniera liscia e super naturale. La voce leggermente rotta di Joshua regge alla perfezione questa canzone. Il suo stile vocale si adatta molto al genere e l’aggiunta di alcuni cori ad armonizzare più alti nei ritornelli si ritrovano perfettamente nello stile generale.

La sensazione del testo è quella di una reale conversazione che viene portata avanti con intento comunicativo: è una canzone che mette a proprio agio chi la ascolta, ci fa sentire capiti e immersi in una storia non nostra che possiamo però condividere e vivere di riflesso anche noi. 

I sentimenti sono espressi con angoscia contenuta, in maniera composta. La sensazione rustica del suono sembra poter essere quasi annusata e non solo ascoltata nella produzione e nell’arrangiamento. 

La traccia riflette la nostalgia, il passato, i sentimenti riguardanti le cose che non si sono realizzate, ma anche il riscatto della propria memoria attraverso l’autoconsapevolezza e la retrospettiva sapiente.

His vocal style fits the genre very well and the addition of some choruses to harmonize higher in the choruses fits perfectly into the overall style. The feeling of the text is that of a real conversation that is carried on with a communicative intent: it is a song that puts the listener at ease, makes us feel understood and immersed in a story that is not ours but that we can share and experience as a reflection we. Feelings are expressed with contained anguish, in a composed manner. The rustic feel of the sound feels like it could almost be smelled and not just heard in the production and arrangement.
